Reaching & Teaching Every Student Through Digital Transformation
As digital transformation proliferates, Oregon’s Education Service Districts (ESDs) are challenged with managing expanding data volumes while keeping information available 24/7, all without breaking the bank. Supporting nearly 37,000 students, the Linn Benton Lincoln (LBL) ESD relies on NetApp and Structured to help meet educational goals for all students, improve access to information for teachers and staff, and keep technology costs in check.
Over the past three years, for example, the data from one LBL gradebook application quadrupled in size from 8GB to 32GB. LBL turned to NetApp AFF, a flexible and scalable infrastructure that better manages growing data volumes. The NetApp AFF solution at the heart of the infrastructure provides faster performance, which allows time-strapped teachers to maximize efficiency and complete administrative tasks in less time — giving them more time to spend planning coursework and working directly with students.
“Our gradebook app contains student grades, files, parent notes, and pictures – everything is scanned and uploaded,” said Brian Berkley, a systems engineer at LBL. “We needed to modernize our data storage to keep up with growing demand.”
Improving overall school operational efficiency by streamlining logistics, business operations, human resources, and course scheduling enables the ESD to redirect time and budgets to programs and activities that directly support student achievement — such as better facilities, books, supplies, classroom technology, and — of course — teachers. Using the NetApp All Flash solution, LBL can affordably store all the data it needs to support digitization.
“As a result of our digital transformation, enabled by the flexible data management infrastructure from NetApp, teachers and staff have improved their efficiency — and we’ve lowered our costs — leaving us more time and money to support our students,” said Berkley. “Better still, our students now benefit from more personalized attention that gives them the knowledge and skills they need to ultimately achieve their dreams.”
